Here's your Rotary Blast!
Rotary District 6760                                                Lead The Way !

Subscriber,  it's 2007!  Ok, not exactly news... but did you know that it's also Rotary Awareness Month?  Last year, then RI President Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammar emphasized Rotary goals and Public Relations in this article.  This year, Bill Boyd speaks about relationships in his message.  Are you "aware" ?  Do you promote your club?  If so, share what works for you so we can all benefit!  -- Ken Ivey
P.S. -- Thanks for the survey feedback - we'll talk about the results in the next Blast!

 Governor's Notes
Gov. Slick and Freda
As I write this message, Freda Sue and I are still in Germany, visiting with our children and enjoying our granddaughter's cute and amazing antics.  We have had limited access to the internet, and we have missed hearing from you.  We will be back home this Thursday, January 4.
For anyone who is interested in attending the North American Rotary Disaster Relief Workshop to be held January 11 - 13 in New Orleans, you can register online at  www.rotary6200.org.  They have developed an amazing program focusing on preparedness, response, and rebuilding, which will be emotional, traumatic, hard-hitting, and loaded with qualified speakers and panelists.  Attending will be RI President Bill Boyd, President-elect Wilf Wilkinson, and Trustee Chair Luis Giay.  I cannot emphasize enough the value this workshop can be to our district.  Please inform me if you plan to register.

DGE Rufus Clifford and Suzie Lindsey, along with their committee, have planned an outstanding Foundation Banquet to be held on 18 January in Columbia.  Everyone is invited to attend on a first-come first-served basis (see below).  Those who have received a Paul Harris Fellow packet or who are multiple-level donors for the 2006 calendar year are especially encouraged to attend.  I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the Foundation Banquet.

I hope you have included in your New Year's resolutions:
  • to become EREY (every Rotarian donating $100 to The Rotary Foundation every year)
  • to become a Paul Harris Fellow or multiple-level donor
  • to become a member of the Paul Harris Society
  • each club become a STAR Club (averaging $100 per member donation to TRF)
each club attain the Presidential Citation
  • attend the District 6760 Conference in Murfreesboro on 4 - 5 May
  • attend the Rotary International Convention in Salt Lake City in June

I am looking forward to the second half of this Rotary year with expectations of success for all the clubs in District 6760.  I am amazed and thrilled with your commitment to making this a better world through Service above Self.  I am confident you will continue your many excellent programs and your dedicated work as you Lead the Way in 2007.

Glückliches Neujahr!  Happy New Year!

Slick

Rotary Global History Fellowship

“We are here on earth and we are here to stay during our respectively allotted periods. How much of happiness and how much of misery shall be our share remains with us almost entirely to determine. If we possess a modicum of reason, it will be apparent to us that it is the part of wisdom to cheerfully make the best of the situation and to harmonize our own lives with nature's inexorable laws. We are entitled to the maximum of happiness; and may we be sane enough to observe that the route to a life full of happiness does not lie in intemperate indulgence.
We need and the world needs an optimistic, rational philosophy of life."
The Distance Sense” by Paul P Harris – The Rotarian, February 1914

As we move into the next year of our lives, it is always a time of reflection with the past and excitement for the future. In today’s uncertain world, let your own lives be full of happiness for 2007 and based on our simple but straightforward Rotary way of life.

For many of us, it is customary to sing the song "Auld Lang Syne" tomorrow. I close by copying down the first and last verses (in the original) for your enjoyment.

"Should Auld Acquaintance be forgot
  And never brought to mind?
Should Auld Acquaintance be forgot,
  And Auld Lang Syne!

...And there's a hand, my trusty fiere!
     And gie's a hand o' thine!
   And we'll tak a right gude-willie-waught,
  For Auld Lang Syne"
