The Rotary train is moving. It is almost at top
speed now. There are several stations along the
track. These stations are committees. These
committees are formed at District level for the
benefit of our Rotary clubs. Sometimes you may not
feel this way, but I assure you that everything we
do at the district level is with the goal of
strengthening clubs. The committees that are already
moving forward this Rotary year are:
Leadership
Academy.....applications are due this week
(August 15 is the deadline).
PDG Linda Rudolph and the LA faculty members are
working hard to make this the best and most
rewarding Leadership Academy ever. All club
presidents-elect should participate, along with
anyone else at the club or district level who is
interested in learning more about Rotary and desires
to become a more effective Rotary leader. The six
lessons of the LA are done online, so you don't even
have to leave home to do them. The final module is
offered in conjunction with graduation on March 31.
For more info and the application, go to our
district web-site (http://www.rotary6760.org/academy.htm ).
Membership/Foundation Seminars will be held
the next two week-ends: August 19 at Lambuth
University in Jackson and August 26 at Columbia
Community College in Franklin. Two seminars are
being held to accommodate clubs in West and Middle
Tennessee. You need to have at least two
representatives from your club (Membership and
Foundation chairs) at one of these very important
seminars. Without membership and Foundation, we are
nothing. I can't emphasize enough the importance of
emphasizing these two areas in your club. PDG John
Butler, Suzie Lindsey, and Kevin Barron are working
hard to make these seminars a very worthwhile
experience for all the clubs in our district.

PETS (President
Elect Training Seminar) will be held at the
Music City Sheraton in Nashville on March 23 - 24.
The committee has plans well underway for another
successful PETS, designed to provide two days of
indispensable training for all the presidents-elect
in the six districts of Tennessee, Kentucky, and
Alabama. RI (Rotary International) requires all
presidents-elect to attend. This seminar is held in
conjunction with the AG (Assistant Governor)
training, which is on March 22 at the same location.
Most AGs will stay for the PETS also.
RYLA
(Rotary Youth Leadership Academy) committee,
which began the same day they ended (July 11). Make
plans for your club to sponsor one or more high
school student(s) for this great leadership training
experience at Austin Peay State University next
July. Participants are likely future Interact Club
members (organizers) in their high schools.
GSE (Group Study Exchange)
committee, led by Rotarian Frank McGinley in
Savannah. Frank is looking for a Rotarian to serve
as team leader and four young professionals (age 25
- 40) to spend 4 weeks in the garden spot of the
world: Provence in the south of France. The deadline
for submitting applications is November 4, and
interviews will be conducted on November 18. We will
be welcoming the GSE team from District 1760 in
France during April and May.
Contact Frank
YE (Youth Exchange) committee, led
by Tommy Martin, has already had a district training
session at the Renaissance Center in Dickson on
August 12. We have already welcomed most of our
District 6760 long-term exchange students for the
new school year. The deadline for long-term outgoing
student applications for next year is December 31,
and the interviews will be held on January 6, 2007.
Applications for short-term exchanges should be in
by February 28, 2007.

your club is interested in participating in a

contributing funds, you may

Vandeford at 731-616-3970.
I hope that all 64 (soon to be 65) clubs in District
6760 are off to a great start. I am excited about
all the good things I have seen happening in the
clubs I have visited so far. Freda Sue and I have
been welcomed by so many wonderful Rotarians, and we
are looking forward to seeing many more of you as we
make our way across this great district. We are
really enjoying having the opportunity to see old
friends and make new ones, to re-visit familiar
towns and experience unfamiliar ones. Thank you for
all you are doing for your communities and the
world.....this global village.

From
Tom Burton, please keep in your thoughts and
prayers PDG Charles Laine, AG John Stokes and his
wife, BB Kerr from the M'boro Rotary Club - recently
hospitalized, Amy Hawkins - the injured mother and
wife of a Brentwood Firefighter, and Ruth McGinnis -
who is still very ill with cancer and begins chemo
on August 21st.
Our thanks go to Dennis
Klainberg and Jane Mrosko of the
JFK Rotary Club for facilitating transfer of
Alim and Bermet, our Youth Exchange Students from
Kyrgystan to their connecting flights. Also,
thanks to Tommy Martin and J.D. Kennedy for
orchestrating this wonderful endeavor.
Plan NOW for your club
to be 100% EREY. This means that every member in
your club will contribute 28 cents per day to The
Rotary Foundation ($100 per year). Let's be 100% in
District 6760!!!
Mr. President, are your applications in?
Subject:
RotaryLeadership Academy -
Deadline
for applications is YESTERDAY!
As a president of a
District 6760 Rotary club, you are aware that
running a successful district requires informed
Presidents, a number of committees, many Assistant
Governors, and, of course, a Governor. In order to
develop a well informed pool of Rotarians who can
assume leadership roles in our clubs and in our
district, the Rotary Leadership Academy was formed
several years ago.
The Academy consists of
six lessons focusing on the important principles of
Rotary, which can be accessed on line or by a hard
copy mailed to the student, beginning in September.
A one day seminar on leadership to be held in April
is required for graduation. The tuition for this
learning experience is $60 (covers the books and
pamphlets), which should be paid by the club.
You can reach me by
email, or my telephone number is 931-647-4888.
