Subscriber,  I love it!  (the part where I get to brag about Rotarians!)

 Governor's Notes

DG Rufus Clifford and wife, Margaret
June 28, 2007 at the Graymere Country Club in Columbia, Tennessee, I was installed as District Governor of District 6760 by PDG Jimmy Couch.  I want to thank Jimmy and all who attended.  Also, I want to thank my club (Columbia Noon) for their help, especially the Rotarians responsible for the Installation Banquet (Cindy, Charlotte, Joan, and Betty).  Joe Kelley, who 19 years ago ask me to be a Rotarian, made an entertaining after dinner talk and I certainly thank him.  I really appreciate the support that was manifested and look forward to "SHARING THE MAGIC OF ROTARY" with you this year.

June 30 I attended The Rotary Foundation/Membership Seminar in Decatur, Alabama.  Ken Schuppert, Regional Foundation Coordinator and Mark Maloney (Foundation Trustee) reported to us on TRF.   Our Foundation took in over 92 million dollars in 2006/7 and are planning on over 100 million for 2007/8.  Investment income for TRF was 98 million making the total close to 200 million dollars.    This money and more is needed to fund the educational and grants programs of TRF as well as Polio Plus.  We are almost there in Polio eradication with less than 200 cases so far this year, however $540 million is needed to go through 2008.  This tells why President Wilkinson and I are requesting "Every Rotarian Every Year $100.00" and every club to average $100.00 per member in its giving.  Having diagnosed and treated patients with Polio, some with "iron lungs", I am passionate about eradicating this disease.  Let's "SHARE THE MAGIC OF ROTARY".

John W. "Bo" Porter, Jr. Regional Rotary International Membership Coordinator for Zone 30 was also in Decatur and talked about membership.  Next month is "Membership
Month" and I will have more to say then.  President Wilf is having a Membership Seminar at the Cool Springs Marriott July 20,21.  I strongly encourage every club President and Membership Chair to attend (club should pay for registration) as it should be very informative.

RYLA took place July 6-8 at Austin Peay Univ.  There were 33 students and was a great event.  I attended the banquet on Sunday, July 8 and helped hand out the diplomas.  PDG James Vandiver delivered the keynote address and as usual was outstanding.  I want to thank Dr. Tom Dueker and staff for a job well done

July is listed as "Literacy Month" in Rotary.  One of our district goals is for every club to be involved in Literacy in some way.  It's easy because every county has the "Books For Kids Program", the Imagination Library started by Dollie Parton.  Have a fund raiser, get a grant, support the program in some way.  There is also the Dictionary Program or your club could adopt a class at a school and read to the kids regularly,   Your club could collect Kids Books and Ronnie Strickland will be glad to take them to Honduras.  Just get involved in Literacy and "SHARE THE MAGIC OF ROTARY".
