 Governor's Notes
There are a few items that merit attention as we close out this Rotary year.  Even though RYLA will be conducted in the next Rotary year, we must do all the preparation for it during this year.  If you have not identified students that you are going to send to RYLA, please take time to do so now.  I know that school is out for almost everyone (and it may even be harder to make contact with teachers, guidance couselors, and students), but the student(s) that you recruit to go to RYLA will very likely have a life-changing experience for the better.  Please give these students that opportunity.  The application is on the district website at www.rotary6760.org

The second item that merits our attention is STAR clubs.  We gave out eleven STAR certificates and magnetic STAR patches for club banners at the District Conference.  Several other clubs have indicated that they are on track to become STAR clubs before the end of the Rotary year.  All a club has to do to reach STAR status is to have an average of one hundred dollars ($100) per member to The Rotary Foundation Annual Programs Fund during this Rotary year.  Remember....that figures out to be about twenty-eight (28) cents per day per Rotarian!!

The third item is the Paul Harris Society.  A Rotarian may become a member of the Paul Harris Society by donating one thousand dollars ($1,000) per year to The Rotary Foundation.  Those donating one thousand dollars during this Rotary year will be recognized as charter members, in addition to being recognized as the next level Paul Harris Fellow.

Deadlines for making contributions to The Rotary Foundation during the 2006-07 Rotary year are as follows:

  • Manual credit cards - received by 29 June 2007
  • Online contributions - authorized online by 30 June 2007
  • Wires/EFT's/ACH's - initiated prior to 30 June 2007
  • Checks dated and postmarked no later than 30 June 2007 and received at the lockbox by 06 July 2007
  • Checks dated postmarked no later than 30 June 2007 and received at this building by 06 July 2007
Thank you once again for your support and all your hard work during this Rotary year.  You have made my job a pleasure.

     Continue to Lead the Way.

              Slick

Group Study Exchange for 2008  <<<  Deadline Approaching!!! >>>

Group Study Exchange for 2008

The 2008 exchange will be a fall/spring travel schedule with District 1030 in the Yorkshire section of England. The 6760 group will travel to British soil September 18, 2007, and return October 18, 2007. The 1030 group will arrive April 15, 2008, and they will depart approximately May 15, 2008. Their District Conference will be October 5- 7, 2007. It will take place on a ferry in the North Sea traveling to Amsterdam. They will have the added opportunity to tour Amsterdam in the exchange.

We will be having to recruit a team in May and June for the outgoing leg of the exchange. We are asking that all applications for Team Leader and Team Member be received by the GSE committee by June 23, 2007. The interviews will take place on July 7th. Applications can be downloaded from the Rotary Download Center.

The ages for team members are 25-39. They cannot have a lineal kinship with a Rotary member and have to be employed in the district. They must be able to leave their employment for approximately one month.

All applications should be mailed to:

Frank McGinley, GSE Chairman
155 Williams Street
Savannah, TN 38372.

Help in finding good team member applicants and potential Rotarian team leaders is requested from all Rotarians in the district. This should be one of the more interesting and enjoyable exchanges in recent years.

Greensburg, KS Tornadoes - Rotarian Response

Greensburg was 95% destroyed by a 1.7 mile wide tornado which completely destroyed the town of about 1,500 residents. This town is starting from scratch to rebuild as the entire downtown and nearly all the homes were completely wiped off the face of the earth.

In the meantime, if you, your club or district wishes to help, here's how:

District 5690 has arranged for contributions from individual Rotarians, clubs and districts to be to be channeled through the charitable fund of the Rotary Club of Wichita, a 501 (c) (3). Cash Contributions can be made to "Wichita Rotary Charitable Fund - Greensburg Disaster Relief" and sent to the address below. Please distribute the information as you wish to fellow Rotarians, clubs and districts. The WRCF will then disburse funds to the Greensburg and Pratt Rotary clubs when needs have been identified by those clubs. Checks may be sent to:

Curtis Dick, Executive Secretary Rotary District 5690 106 W. Douglas, Suite 909 Wichita, KS 67156 curtis@wichitarotary.org

If districts have DDF they would like to commit to a long-term project down the road, we are asking that the district please earmark it for future use (at the district level) and inform us (D5690 curtis@wichitarotary.org) of the amount they are holding for this disaster. We will maintain a record of committed amounts and eventually come back to request the DDF if it is still available.
