Subscriber, it was
great to see you at PETS last weekend! As we
look toward the coming Rotary year and an
emphasis on Public Relations, we should consider
innovative ways of getting the word out.
Consider this idea from "Quote Corner" at Rotary
PR Tips.
"Because wealth is
defined in our culture by what you have, a
project like this is important to teach
young people the importance of giving. Our
emerging leaders and current leaders in all
walks of life need role models who believe -
true wealth and richness come from giving."
- Carol LaRue, from
the Rotary Club of Maryville, Tennessee, USA
in response to the release of Forbes
Magazine’s annual “Richest Person” issue.
LaRue serves on a committee developing an
alternative list of community members who
are rich in volunteer service.
As the District
Conference draws near, I'm asking for your help
with media (video, pictures, anything) to be
used in the presentations. Thanks! -- Ken Ivey

Governor's
Notes
It is my pleasure to announce
that, as of March 19, we have a new
club in Rotary District 6760,
bringing our total to 65 clubs. The
Pickwick Landing Rotary Club was
officially chartered on that date.
Information will be forthcoming on
the date and details of their formal
chartering ceremony. I hope that as
many of you as possible will be able
to attend and welcome the newest
(and already very active) club in
our District. Congratulations to
our twenty newest Rotarians, as well
as their Assistant District
Governor, Marcus Anderson, and the
Savannah Rotary Club, their sponsor
club.
Past District Governor (PDG)
Glen Vanderford, and Governor Elect
(DGE) Rufus Clifford conducted an
outstanding Team Training Seminar on
Saturday, March 10, at the
Renaissance Center in Dickson.
Considerable preparation was done so
that the District Officers and
Committee Chairs could ASSIST OUR
CLUBS TO BE BETTER CLUBS! We all
want the next Rotary year to be
better than the last. Some eight
different areas were covered. Much
time was devoted to NEW GENERATIONS,
because these young citizens will be
tomorrow's Rotarians. PDG Glen
Vanderford will be the director of
New Generations during the next
Rotary year, and the Committee
Chairs will be:
- Youth Exchange - Tommy Martin
(Clifton) 931-676-3311
- 4-Way Speech Contest - PDG Jimmy
Couch (Columbia) 931-388-1000
- Interact - Chris Williams
(Lawrenceburg) 931-762-7528
- Rotaract - Jimmy Langston
(Columbia) 615-254-6005
- Will R. Manier, Jr. Scholarship
- Shirley Jones (Jackson Old
Hickory)
- Rotary Youth Leadership Awards -
Tom Dueker (Clarksville Sunrise)
931-552-1414
This past week-end there was
another significant event in
preparation for the new Rotary
year. District 6760 joined with
five other districts (2 from
Kentucky, 2 from Alabama, and 1 from
Tennessee) in conducting an
Assistant Governors Institute (AGI)
on Thursday, March 22 and a
Presidents-Elect Training Seminar
(PETS) on Friday and Saturday, March
23 - 24. The district's new AGs and
PEs received intensive training to
help them lead our clubs to new
heights during the upcoming year.
In addition to excellent
facilitators, there were outstanding
featured speakers throughout the
sessions. It would be difficult not
to be inspired by
- Pat Williams, Senior
Vice-President, Orlando Magic, who
spoke on "Who Wants to Be a
Champion"
- Rotary International
President-Elect Wilfrid "Wilf"
Wilkinson, who spoke on "Membership"
- Ron D. Burton, Trustee, The
Rotary Foundation
- RI Director Bob Stuart
PETS was certainly graced with the
presence of the "Who's Who of
Rotary" for next year, which shows
the emphasis RI puts on training our
future leaders at the district and
club level.
I hope all of you are sending in
your club's applications for the
Presidential Citation and STAR Club
designations and that you are making
plans to attend the
District Conference in
Murfreesboro on May 4 - 5. I look
forward to seeing you again then.
Remember to bring a new Rotarian
with you so that more members can be
inspired by the accomplishments of
this great organization. Continue
to Lead the Way.

6760 Rotarians
The Beginning of a Journey
By
Andrea Fanta
Rotary Peace Scholar
The University of Queensland
Brisbane, Australia
Saturday, March 17, 2007
I’ve been in Brisbane,
Australia, for four weeks
now – and, already, I can
tell this experience is
going to change my life.
I’m living Down Under as one
of Rotary’s newest World
Peace Scholars who will earn
her master’s degree in Peace
and Conflict Resolution at
The University of
Queensland.
My nine colleagues,
fellow Peace Scholars,
would at first glance seem
to have nothing in common.
We come from different parts
of the world and have done
very different things in our
past lives. However, what
unites us is a desire to
care for our globe, as well
as a desire for the skills
and tools to do just that.
With just three weeks of
class under our belts, it’s
already clear we’re going to
get exactly what we asked
for. This semester, my
classmates and I are
studying Advanced
International Studies,
Contemporary Peacekeeping
and Ethics and Human Rights.
While we learn about the
theories guiding
international relations, we
also have to consider their
ethical frameworks and
practical implications.
Perhaps most importantly, we
get to do this surrounded by
other students from around
the world, whose diverse
perspectives force us to
thoroughly examine our own.
Like so many things in my
life, this opportunity would
not be possible without the
generosity and support of
Rotary. However,
surprisingly, most local
Rotarians aren’t familiar
with this Rotary Foundation
program – though their
financial commitment is
directly linked to its
success.
I want the Rotarians of
District 6760 to be aware of
the investment their moral
and fiscal support is making
possible. I cannot foretell
the path on which this
experience will take me, but
I can promise that it will
involve a commitment to
peace and justice, and a
lifetime of gratitude to
this outstanding
organization.

"Day
Against Diabetes" Golf Tournament
District 6760 Officers, Club Presidents, and
Club Secretaries:
The Jackson Good Morning! Rotary Club is
holding its “Day Against Diabetes”
Golf Tournament on May 4, 2007. The
tournament will have a 4-person scramble
format again this year.
I want to personally invite you and members
of your club to participate in
this year’s tournament, either by forming a
team (or teams) to play in the
tournament, by becoming a sponsor, or by
making a donation to “Day Against Diabetes.”
I have attached a registration form to this
email message. Editor's note:
Please visit the Rotary Blast
website to download the form.
If your club wants to enter a team (or
teams), please print the attachment, fill in
the required information, and send the form,
along with the entry fee, to Hal Freeman.
His address and phone number is at the
bottom of the form.
Again, please join us at our golf tournament
and help make it a success.
Cordially,
Jerry Cole,
Immediate Past President
Jack Good Morning! Rotary Club
Honduras Project
To all clubs and
listening stations, it would be most helpful in
the planning phase to know just who and a hand
grenade estimate of what your clubs might be
able to do committ for the Rotary Year 2008
Honduras Project.
This is really a
tough call for the planning cell because TRF
deadline for submitting MG applications is March
31. Don't ask me why they are due well in
advance of when the new officers and boards are
in place. I just work here and am not in charge
of decisions. Looking forward to hearing from
everyone.
