Our district has
$64,000 that we are getting closer every day to
leaving on the table. Every club can apply to RI
for a $1,000 Blane Immunization Grant before
December 31. It is on the RI website, and it is
very simple to fill out. Just go to this
website. This grant may be used for
immunizing children or adults.....how about
targeting the senior citizens in your community
who need flu shots?
There is a $3,000 Publicity Grant being
made available for EVERY club to use for
publicity purposes More can be found out by
going to to
this page on the RI website. Again, this is
a form that is simple to fill out. Think of all
the advertising you can do for Rotary through
radio, TV, newspapers, and/or billboards for
$3,000!!! And it is yours for the asking!!! I
hope all of you will submit the request for this
grant before October 31.
I want to thank everyone who went to one of
the Foundation or Membership Seminars in Jackson
and Franklin. Special thanks to PDG Jim
Johnston for filling in for Kevin Barron, who
found out at the last minute that he would be
unavailable because of professional
considerations.
The end of the month is coming up, and
Membership and Attendance reports will be due on
September 6. Reports go to
Melissa Barron. Please see that your
reports are on time. We can save a lot of
needless work if everyone simply responds
promptly.
I am impressed by the ingenuity that I
see in just about every club that we visit. We
have a great group of Rotarians in District 6760
who are committed to making our world a better
place and who obviously want to "Lead the Way".
Lead The Way! - Slick

Family of Rotary
The membership of the
Murfreesboro Rotary Club mourns the loss of B.B.
Kerr, Jr. As the oldest member of our club, and
a Rotarian for 59 years, he was a living example
of Rotary's Motto, "Service Above Self".
An update from
Ruth McGinnis: "I appreciate all the emails,
letters, flowers, gifts, prayers and good wishes
that many of you have sent, and will continue to
cherish this overwhelming outpouring of support.
The greatest gift you can give me at this time
is to listen closely to your own body and invest
in your daily health. Get the check-ups and
screening tests your doctor recommends in a
timely manner... And vibrantly live the day in
front of you!!" (from Ruth's note, which you can
find
here.
Update from DG
Frazer: Past District Governor (PDG) Charlie
Laine is home! We visited
Charlie day before yesterday and he was the same
ole Charlie Laine: witty, smiling, and
entertaining as ever. Of course Doris was
beside him, smiling as Charlie entertained.
Thank the good Lord that Charlie won this
battle---only a few win with such medical
conditions.
Now the bad news: Governor-elect (DGE)
Rufus Clifford is in the Columbia Hospital with
a report that he has contracted spinal
meningitis. More to follow in this area.

Ready for
some hockey?
The Nashville
Predators have been in the news almost daily the
past several weeks. On
September 7,
we will have an update on what the new season
holds for the professional hockey team. A
representative from the Predators will be at our
meeting to answer our questions about playoff
possibilities for the coming year.
Here's something
that missed the deadline, but is available on

The Rotary year
in youth exchange has started with a flurry
of activity. All of the international
students that we will be hosting for the
next 11 months in District 6760 have now
arrived. These students and their host clubs
are as follows:
Student
Country Host Club
Bjoern
Eggert Germany
Clifton RC
Nana
Kawamura Japan
Smyrna RC
Chloe
Bonnand
France Paris RC
Layla Freitas
Brazil Hendersonville RC
Milena Caram
Brazil Jackson RC
Bermet
Abdykul-kyzy Kyrgyzstan
Murfreesboro
Alim Kanaev
Kyrgyzstan Murfreesboro
A special thanks
to all of those clubs who have agreed to be
host clubs for this youth exchange year.
In addition to
hosting seven students, District 6760 is
sending two Tennessee students to other
countries. Michelle Branch, from Franklin,
Tennessee, sponsored by the Clifton RC, will
be spending the next year in Japan. Michelle
has arrived already, loves her first host
family and is looking forward to a fun,
exciting year.
Krystin Fields,
from Kingston Springs, Tennessee, sponsored
by the Dickson Noon RC, will be leaving for
France this week. Our District 6760 Youth
Exchange committee is very proud of both
these young ladies. We know that they will
be good ambassadors for Tennessee and our
district.
For those clubs
interested in getting involved in youth
exchange, this is the time to begin. Make
sure someone in your school system is
familiar with the program and will help you
promote it. An article in your local
newspaper can be helpful. If anyone has
questions about how to get started, contact
me by phone 1-877-656-3311 or by e-mail at
tmartin@pbbanking.com
Tommy Martin
District
6760-YEO
Editor's Note: Tommy has been a
very prolific writer this month. Here's
more news!
The
short term youth exchange program or summer
program as it is known in many countries is
almost complete for year 2006-2007. During
the past summer, we had seven Tennessee
students to participate in the program.
These seven students traveled to other
countries, stayed with families with
children of similar ages for 3 -4 weeks and
then brought their host brothers and sisters
to Tennessee for a visit of a similar time.
The students who participated in this
program are listed below:
Student Rotary
Club Country Visited
International Student
Bethany Dockins
Jackson
Brazil Eduarda Negretti
Camille
Newell Clarksville Sunrise
Germany Carina Ebling
Dustin
Denton Clifton
Brazil Felipe Ferreira-Baptistao
Mallory Letson
Clifton
Italy Federica Franco
Grace
Hoffmann Lewisburg
Italy Francesca Franco
Colleen
Carnes Lawrenceburg
Germany Kerstin Balz
John
McCollum Clarksville Sunrise
France Romain Pioli
In addition to
these students who have participated in the
summer program, District 6760 is also
hosting two additional students on one way
exchanges. A one way exchange occurs when a
country has more students to apply than
hosts can be found. For 2006-2007, we were
able to find Rotary Clubs willing to be a
host club even though they did not send a
student to another country The clubs and
students participating in this program are:
Madison-Goodlettsville is hosting Michael
Lausberg of Germany.
Clifton &
Clarksville Sunrise is hosting Lizzy
Rhodes of Australia. (This exchange will not
occur until February & March of 2007).
As you can see,
the exchange program is very flexible. Clubs
can get involved in many different ways---
by hosting long term or short term students,
by sponsoring long term or short term
students or by all of these means. We would
welcome any clubs that want to get involved.
Contact Tommy Martin, District Youth
Exchange Officer

details.
