Short Term Program (Summer) The short-term or Summer Exchange Program is usually three or four weeks in host country, returning with exchange sister/brother for three or four weeks in Tennessee. Rarely it may be that the exchange takes place in other than summer to accommodate southern hemisphere exchanges. (Anyone interested in Australia, in other words, would be visiting them during their winter if traveling during June-August.) Long Term Program (Academic Year) This program is for ten to eleven months in duration. Student attends high school on full-time basis in hosting country and will live with from one to four families during their stay. Benefits of the long-term program include immersion in the culture and fluency in the language at the end of the program.
Youth Exchange Guidelines/Requirements The Rotary Youth Exchange Program welcomes any young people who meet the requirements of the program and who are recommended and sponsored by a Rotarian, a Rotary Club, or a District. (Children of Rotarians are eligible to participate in the program.) Exchange candidates must be between the ages of 15-19 (no more than 18½ at the time of departing for long-term exchange). Qualified applicants are academically above average, articulate, and demonstrate community leadership skills; Must complete the appropriate Application as well as a Host Family Application and, using the forms included under "Apply to RYE in District 6760," submit to local Rotary Club along with applicable fees; Must be approved both by the local sponsoring Rotary Club as well as the District Youth Exchange Officer/Committee.
