Rufus Clifford is a native Tennessean, born in Bedford County. His father was a Church of Christ evangelist, and their family lived in several locations with Rufus graduating from Lawrence County HS in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. After attending David Lipscomb College and UT Knoxville, Rufus graduated from LIT Medical School Memphis in March of 1959. Following an internship at UT Knoxville Hospital, Rufus served as a Flight Surgeon in the USAF with the rank of Captain. Returning to UT Hospital in Knoxville, he completed a residency in Pediatrics, became Board Certified and moved to Columbia, Tennessee in 1964. Dr. Clifford practices at Columbia Pediatric Clinic with 9 Pediatricians and 2 Nurse Practitioners. He is a member of the AMA, TMA, American Academy of Pediatrics, TPS, was named Pediatrician of the Year in Tennessee in 1997, and has served as Chief of Pediatrics and Chief of Staff at Maury Regional Hospital. Rufus and his wife Margaret have 3 children and 7 grandchildren. He has served as an elder in the church form many years, as a board member of the Boys and Girls Club, and has been involved in many community activities. His hobbies are yard work, bird hunting, and high school basketball. Rufus became a Rotarian in 1987, has served on many committees for his club being President in 1997-98. He attended the District Leadership Academy in 2000-01, served on several district committees and presently on the Finance Committee since 2003. Rufus was an Assistant Governor from 2001-03 and has been District Grants Chair since 2003.
