COMMUNITY SERVICE SPECIAL PROJECT DISASTER RELIEF TRAILER As the saying goes “Be Prepared”. Realizing the importance of readiness and utilizing the network of Rotary throughout our district, the Community Service Committee would like to ask for your support to a special project. This committee has purchased a trailer and is in the process of supplying it for Disaster Relief. The trailer will be available to be utilized wherever needed within our district when a natural disaster occurs, such as a tornado or ice storm. It will be equipped with lights, work bench, generators and storage compartments for the necessary supplies such as: Needed Supplies: 2 – curved shovels, 2- flat shovels, 2- pick axes, 2- double edged axes, 2- rakes, big crow bar, log roller, wedges, large sledge hammer, complete tool box, various chains, pulling cables (pre-made chain chokers), chain saws, pole chainsaw, wood mall, spill safety fuel cans, chain sharpener, extra chainsaw chains, light tree, cords, generator, bar oil, bungee cords, logging straps, orange cones, etc. Personal Protection equipment: 12 pairs leather gloves, 12 pair safety glasses, 6- sets of chainsaw chaps, 6- sets of chainsaw helmets with eye and hearing protection, ear plugs, first aid kit, flashlights, 12 hard hats, water cooler, safety ropes, rain boots (slip over type), ponchos, orange vests, etc. We encourage you to bring donated items to the District Conference May 5-6, 2006. Notify Mike Thompson of your donation so we can keep a running inventory of items donated to avoid duplication. An updated inventory list will be on the District Website. In addition to its use in a disaster, the trailer would also serve as a mobile billboard throughout our District to promote Rotary’s Image and increase Public Awareness. Clubs may showcase the trailer at community events such as festivals and parades. We would like for each club to not only donate to this special project but also provide us with names of 2 Rotarians that can serve as contacts for our Disaster Relief network. We suggest that you contact your local Emergency Management Agency to notify them of our special project. You may also consider inviting them to become Rotarians if they are not already members, this will help make our network and organization more complete. A list of the County Directors, addresses and phone numbers may be found at www.tnema.org/EP/HM/WestLEPC.htm (West Tennessee) www.tnema.org/EP/HM/MiddleLEPC.htm (Middle Tennessee). Please submit the names of your 2 Rotarians serving as contacts to: Mike Thompson, P.O. Box 444, Franklin, TN 37065, mike.thompson@usa.net Please give to this worthwhile project as it will assist all communities in the event of a disaster. The donation of $3.00 per capita is suggested.
