Creating Experiences of a Lifetime

Have you ever wanted to see the world?  Learn about “far away places” and “far away people?”  The Rotary International Youth Exchange program is designed to give you a unique opportunity to do just that!

It has now been ten years since our daughter, Emily, took advantage of the Short-Term Exchange Program and spent three weeks in Manchester, England.  Her exchange sister, Sara, came first to our home in Colorado for three weeks and they then returned to England together.  When telling of her experience to a potential exchangee earlier, I heard her say “it was a life-altering experience for me—I gained a second family, a lifelong friend, a sense of independence and enormous self-confidence!”  Quite a testimony to the program, but one that is heard over and over from students returning from their trips—be it in Switzerland, Spain, Holland, Austria, Germany, France, Ecuador—wherever.

Later as we were privileged to be a host family for Long-Term students from Mexico and Russia, it became even clearer that this is a program that creates experiences of a life time!  While we have not yet made it to Russia to visit Vladmir, we have maintained contact with Veronica in Mexico, and she was a wonderful host when we spent time near her home in Tampico.  Far away places and far away people somehow manage to become global family.

Karen McDaniels
Former Youth Exchange Officer

Rotary’s mission in sponsoring the Youth Exchange Program is to permit young people to learn the culture and language of a foreign country through active participation in family, school and community life in order to further international goodwill and understanding.  An important aspect of the Exchange Program is to permit outstanding youth to develop their confidence, personality and maturity in order to be more responsible citizens.

My goal as the Youth Exchange Officer for District 6760 is to provide the opportunity to as many qualified students as possible.  Please browse the Youth Exchange section of the Rotary 6760 website.
